http://www.godweb.org/dictionary/dic_g-h.htm - The attitude of the Christian that suggest one should not"...think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment..." (Rom. 12:3). It is knowing our true position before God. It is not self-abasement or demeaning one's self. "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6). Humility is necessary to be a disciple of Jesus (Matt. 18:3-4). The humility of Jesus is described in Philippians 2:5-8, "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!"
We feel humbled at Easter with the story of Jesus sacrifice and great love for us even before we knew him. We need to stay in that frame of mine to be useful to God, submissive instead of proud. We need God we can’t walk this road alone.
We don’t have to try and be holy and pure. He changes us and give us power to do things in his name with heaven’s authority (such as heal the sick). We can’t do it on our own, and we are not expected to. We are never holy enough to be in God’s presence without the work of the cross. We can never remove the ungodly habits from out life without his help. Change requires submission to God, not just when we are saved but daily. Being obedient isn’t hard if we’ve submitted our will to God and know our lives are in his hands. He is in control and will look after us. God can truly use those ready to listen and obey instead of fight God and say it’s impossible. It is impossible alone but we are not alone. It’s all about his great love and getting that message across the world no matter what.
He makes us great. He gives us authority over illness, forgiveness, sin, evil. It’s important not to loose sight of that. Who He is and we are in him. Signs and wonders to occur in daily life when we are humble enough to obey and be looked after (instead of looking after ourselves and doing out own thing). He can perform wonders in our lives that show his care for his chosen people. Expect the unexpected with God. See things as God intervening not just co incidences. Signs and wonders happen because we have been obedient and faithful first not because we need to be sure we are being sent and want to question if this is really God or not.
What would happen if you were to worship God and how great He is in prayer, ask His will for you today instead of always just asking for things for you? God will look after you, you his child now but there are many that don’t know him and are not safe yet. What would happen if you obeyed God instead of choosing to believe it wasn’t God or do your own thing? Who knows where God can take us when we are humbled before Him and give him the honour He deserves. Take the challenge try it and let us know what happens.
God used Moses to lead his people to freedom. The bible says this about Moses in Numbers 12:2-4: 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out.
The Lord hears those who are Humble.
2 Kings 22:18-20
18 Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: 19 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people, that they would become accursed and laid waste, and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. 20 Therefore I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.' "
So they took her answer back to the king.
In Psalms we are told God saves the Humble (Psalm 18:27), guides them (Psalm 25:9), they are sustained (Psalm 147:5-7), delighted in (Psalm 149:4)and fast in prayer (Psalm 35:13).
We are told in Mathew 18:4 that “whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus is referred to as Humble in the Gospels. In 1st Peter 3:8 we are instructed to; “live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”
